Achilles Tendon Treatment

A tendon is a fibrous connective tissue that attaches muscles to bones. The Achilles tendon is the one that connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. The two calf muscles, gastrocnemius and soleus, join into a single strand to become the Achilles tendon before linking with the calcaneus or heel bone. It is the strongest and largest tendon of the body and helps us flex our calf muscles and supports the body when on our toes.

When you damage your Achilles tendon, the most overpowering symptom is pain. You will also notice swelling near the heel. There will be stiffness in your leg and any activity that requires flexing the calf muscles, like standing on your toes, bending your foot down or even walking becomes difficult or impossible. If you felt a snap or pop preceding these symptoms, it is a telling sign that you damaged your Achilles tendon.

How Can We Help

Momentum Podiatry provides end-to-end services for Achilles tendon treatment. The first step is to diagnose the issue, which is done using musculoskeletal assessments. The following are commonly used:

Biomechanical Tests

Biomechanical tests aim to diagnose the problem by comparing the various angles, lengths and other parameters of your leg in static and kinetic circumstances to the normal values. If the values for you fall outside the normal range, the damage can be diagnosed by analysing the nature and degree of anomaly.

Manual Muscle Testing

Here, the doctor squeezes the two calf muscles. This should cause the Achilles tendon to contract, causing plantar flexion movement. If abnormal or no movement is detected, then the Achilles tendon is damaged.

Gait Analyses

Gait analysis involves a visual examination of the movement of the person, especially the lower body and legs in this case, which includes position and force of locomotion. An abnormal gait is a sign of Achilles tendon damage.

Once you are successfully diagnosed, all you have to do is book the treatment for Achilles tendon repair and our expert doctors and podiatrists will provide painless and effective treatment while guaranteeing a permanent cure.

Differential Diagnoses of Achilles Tendon Issues

There can be several causes for facing Achilles tendon issues and pain in the back of the lower leg. The most common diagnoses are:

Achilles Tendinitis

Achilles tendinitis is the condition in which the tissue of your Achilles tendon becomes acutely inflamed. This can be due to injury, infection, or chronic damage.

Achilles Tendon Injury

If you over-exert your Achilles tendon greatly once or in small amounts over a long period or frequently, you may experience Achilles tendon injury. It mostly shows up as a partial or complete tear or rupture.

Heel Pain

Heel pain can be a symptom of several conditions and injuries of the foot, including fractures, sprain, inflammation, etc. For issues of the Achilles tendon, the heel pain is at the back of the foot or lower leg.
