Ingrown Toenail Removal

Ingrown toenail surgery can be a simple process in the right hands. The podiatrists at Momentum Podiatry are all highly trained and experienced professionals who know what they are doing.

They will ensure that the process is smooth, painless, and done with as little invasiveness as possible.

We guarantee that we will do all the necessary treatment to ensure that the problem does not recur, especially if it is a chronic issue that can be prevented.

Ingrown Toenail Removal, Without The Hassle of Surgery

Ingrown toenails are always a huge pain, especially because they cause a lot of pain. The part of the finger into which the nail is growing gets inflamed and often infected, causing enough pain to even prevent you from walking properly.

Removing the ingrown part of the nail is essential to fix the issue. While it is possible to undertake ingrown toenail removal yourself, you won’t be able to do it completely, cleanly, or painlessly. A podiatrist is your best bet and the ones at Momentum Podiatry are experts in this procedure.

Ingrown Toenail Removal Process

A common conservative method to tackle an ingrown toenail is the simple removal of the part growing into the skin. By conservative, we mean that there is no need for surgical incisions. It is usually a painless process.

However, if there is too much inflammation or infection that is causing severe pain, anesthesia may be recommended to manage the pain. Once that is done, the podiatrist will lift the ingrown part of the nail out of the affected portion of the tissue and carefully remove the spicule, ensuring that no sharp nail sections are left embedded in the tissue. Once done, the area is dressed to provide padding from external forces as well as to prevent infections.

What Factors Can Raise the Need for Surgery

While conservative ingrown toenail removal is preferred by most doctors and patients, it is sometimes not possible to avoid surgery. There are three scenarios where surgery becomes necessary.

The first is if the shape of the nail has become so deformed that a simple removal would be impossible. The second is if there is considerable damage to the nail and surgical removal is necessary so as not to aggravate the situation.

The last is if the nail has grown too deep and/or soft tissue has largely grown around the area covering a considerable portion of the nail, surgery becomes inevitable to remove the extra growth.
